Learn to create a positive work environment by accentuating the positive and illuminating the negative "Illuminate" argues that we can't create positive work environments without accepting the existence of the negative. Though "positive thinking" has its place in the work world, we can't ignore the negative, whether it be in the form of challenges, problems, limitations, or other negative business realities. In order to foster healthy, functional business, we have to create a culture that allows for open expression and the sharing of ideas-"especially" when those ideas are negative in nature. The key is that negative situations and conditions should be introduced and dealt with in a strictly positive light. The result is an organization able to look at itself honestly and stay alert to possible threats. A unique kind of business book, "Illuminate" is written in the style of an allegorical fable that teaches you a three-step process for confronting, examining, and fixing any problem in the office. Offers practical ways for dealing with negative situations to achieve positive outcomes Serious wisdom wrapped in a fictional format Author David Corbin operates a successful consultancy that helps industry and government maximize productivity and, therefore, profitability Corbin is also the star and co-director of the hit 2007 self-help film "Pass It On"; he is featured in the 2009 Napoleon Hill Foundation Film, "Three Feet From Gold" If your corporate culture can't deal with the negative without creating more negativity, this is the perfect guide for creating and sustaining a culture of positive change.

Illuminate Harnessing the Positive Power of Negative Thinking (Audible Audio Edition) David M. Corbin, L. J. Ganser, Audible Studios Books Reviews
This is an easy ready you can finish in hours and the story is interesting but get to the point.
Recommend for those who have negative people around or problems hard to solve.
Seldom do I give a book five stars but this book definitely deserves it. I love how simple yet profound the message is in this book. What I love the most about it is the format/method used to deliver his thoughts. Great job!
Excellent book. It has truely helped me to resolve the root cause of the issues identified
Quick read, provides a different way of looking at things.
I agree with the reviewer who praised the author for showing how positive thinking can be practical thinking by not ignoring the negatives. The story (case study) of Jon illustrates the rewards of realistic thinking in personal, social, and work life. This book is a good addition to the 2001 book by psychologist Julie Norem,The Positive Power of Negative Thinking Using Defensive Pessimism to Harness Anxiety and Perform at Your Peak. Books about thinking styles and cognitive strategies can be very helpful -- and David M Corbin's Illuminate lives up to its goal of illustrating practical ways for dealing with negative situations in order to achieve positive outcomes.
ILLUMINATE is a fun book to read with easy concepts to learn!
I enjoyed reading the story and I could relate to the characters that David developed in Illuminate, it's reads like your best friend helping you out of a jam.
The information presented is well thought out, easy to understand, and you can use it immediately.
After reading the book I have changed my attitude towards the way I look at and deal with "neigh sayers" in our company. We now positively look at the negative aspects keeping us from moving forward.
I'm ordering Illuminate for all our supervisors and if you lead or manage any group or business you will want to get the book too.
I think everyone will enjoy reading this book as it has personal and professional applications.
Good reading.
Dave Corbin has demonstrated his method by writing this book Illuminate Harnessing the Positive Power of Negative Thinking. All the negatives of modern business books are illuminated; put yourself in Dave's shoes and think "ho-hum, another airplane book" or "ho-hum, another parable about Jon who is missing his son's ballgame and his wife's art gallery opening and might lose his job because (ho-hum) his big new program didn't work" and "ho-hum, he meets the wise old entrepreneur on the plane who gives him some suggestions..." Dave takes all the "ho-hum's" of business books and creates an engaging story that teaches the reader three simple steps to overcome the fallacies of false positive thinking, when people are afraid to admit that they have problems because it is culturally incorrect to be non-positive.
The story is engaging. People who have in the past refused to read "motivational" books have borrowed my copies, and passed it on to others four times this week! So I've bought more copies because Illuminate has a message that people need in a form that they want.
I'm a creativity consultant and I deal with mostly engineering and manufacturing professionals, who mostly want statistical proof of any methodology before they'll even look at it. They love Illuminate, and they are using it. Thanks, Dave Corbin!
David Corbin is one of the people I look up to as a coach and mentor. Dave is an entrepreneur, coach, and consultant. He was executive Producer of the Pass It On video (which was much more than a sequel to "The Secret").
Now, Dave has come out with a courageous new book - Illuminate Harnessing the Positive Power of Negative Thinking. I don't know that it necessarily took a lot of courage for Dave to write it (though the blank page is intimidating to every writer, Dave seems to have a surplus of courage when it comes to starting new things - new businesses, new books and movies, new friendships). But it does take a lot of courage to read it, and even more to act upon the formula he provides for illuminating the negative to fix the problems in your career, your business, and your life, you need to find them, follow then, and fix them.
Dave likes to say that he makes his living as a consultant, but he earns his keep as an insultant, telling people things they don't want to hear but need to hear. Since having the privilege of reading the manuscript for Dave's book (I mean every word of my testimonial on the front page) I've approached my own consulting work, and my own business, in a new way. I try to be diplomatic, but I'm now much more candid and much more blunt in sharing my observations and recommendations with clients. And I've gotten a lot more serious about being an insultant to myself when it comes to my own work and life.
Illuminate is written in the form of a fun-to-read business parable featuring a struggling hospital executive. You can read it on a flight from Chicago to LA. But don't let that easy, breezy style of writing deceive you. This book - if you take to heart its central message of not covering up or hiding from your problems but rather casting the light of awareness and action on them - will change how you approach your work and your life.
