Meet Will and Jeannie, two people who look like long-dead American pop-culture icons, two people on the run for their lives. They are property of the secretive agency known as the Compound, and the Compound wants them back at any cost.

Take a wild ride through a dark history of American conspiracies and the 20th century will never look the same again. A covert government agency & Third Reich science, cloning & cryogenics, the Second Coming & the Millennium, all coming together in a collision of passions and perversions, past and present. Of course, a story as unique as this could only be Made in the U.S.A.

Made in the USA The 10th Anniversary Edition eBook Jack X McCallum

I honestly did not know what to expect when I began reading Made in the USA. The book was recommended to me by a friend and I did not know anything about the book or the author. I had no idea what a pleasant surprise was in store for me.

The universe in which MITU is set is complex, exciting, and full of potential. Maybe I am just a sucker for pseudo history, but this book weaves real historical events and characters with a healthy game of what-if that creates a rich and rewarding experience. There are mysteries shrouded so deep that one could not prove they were untrue and they are definitely enough to make you think. Yes, the compound could really be watching you)

The characters are a lot of fun in this story. Sure many of the basic archetypes are represented, but the back story and historical context make these archetypes seem fresh. Some characters you empathize with immediately, some will make you laugh, some you will love to hate, and at least one will leave you with a little fear based on just the slightest chance that he could be real.

Is this book perfect, no its not. There were some things that I didn't like about the book such as an overt preoccupation with sex to name one (but hey, isn't that the point of Made in the USA). However, the point is that this story is, at heart, an adventure and it is truly is one heck of a ride. There is action, mystery, romance, intrigue, science fiction as well as science fact, horror, the paranormal, humor, and a sentimental heart that make this story completely satisfying to read in spite of any flaws (and most of those flaws are just my opinion). Not to sound the cliché, but it will make laugh and it will make you cry; but it will also make you nervous, it will make you queasy a few times, it will turn you on, and it will definitely make you think. This author has a clear vision and he told his story his way. It is a great universe to which you will wish to return. This is a great first statement from an author who shows a lot of talent and a lot of promise. I, for one, can't wait for his next offering as Jack MacCallum is one to watch. And even if you set aside everything I have just said, go read Made in the USA because it is just a lot of fun and time well spent.

Made in the USA The 10th Anniversary Edition eBook Jack X McCallum Reviews

This book leaves one with the residue of an unsettling strangeness, and yet a realism that hits the core, but most of all, a new voice that readers ~~ & writers too ~~ might be seeking out for decades to come. ****

(This review is for the Dark Red Press 10th Anniversary Edition)

What can I say about this book, the work of a friend and fellow author? I read the original years ago, and I was honored with opportunity to provide the blurb for the 10th anniversary cover. This is one of the most bizarre, hilarious, disturbed, adventurous and touching novels I've ever had the pleasure to consume - and I say that without hyperbole. I read it again last night, in one sitting, and found myself laughing-out-loud half a dozen times, tearing up twice, and grossed out more times than can be remembered. But what are you going to find in the book?

Imagine Carl Hiaasen fueled by whiskey-violence and on an S&M bender. Imagine Clive Cussler growing up full of paranoia and pulp magazines. Imagine a hystertically depraved take on everything you know and may hold dear - a clone of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis's dead twin raised as an assassin, a botched Antichrist, government spooks with snackfood names, Nazi pseudo-science brought to life, and a hidden history with an 80 year old JFK flinging poo.

"Made In The USA" is Christopher Moore, Stephen King, and Robert Ludlum all thrown into a blender and then poured back out onto the page for our twisted entertainment. It's a celebration of the American spirit, of individuality and simple freedoms. It's also a collection of scatological jokes, T&A scenes and gratuitous bloodshed. I guess that's American, too.

No, the book not for everyone. But for those who the book is intended, they will spread it everywhere...
As a point of disclosure, I know the author, Jack X McCallum. However, I would never present anything but an honest review of any book I read. It is a simple matter of principle in that I would expect nothing less from anyone who would review my own material. Otherwise, what's the point of blowing sunshine up someone's butt? It serves no valid purpose other than wasting everyone's time.

Having said that, I was more than surprised when I read Made In The U.S.A. - the first piece of work I actually read from this author. It was NOTHING like I expected. I did expect, however, a well-written story. That I got. And, then some.

The story is that of Will and Jeannie, two folks who have a minor clue in their own origins, but have little clue as to how deep those origins go and the trouble at which the organization behind their origins will go to close the case files on them... permanently.

The depth of characters in this novel is pretty astounding, all of them well-rounded and fleshed out through strong prose and deep narrative.
The thing I enjoyed most about the adventure, was learning about all of the back-story through the expertly-woven interludes that McCallum placed in between the modern day action taking place. Not many writers can perform such a task with as daft a touch as done here.

As well, I grew to really like the two main characters and found myself wanting to know more, especially about Will's vast experiences (such as the incidents at Hometown), and I truly hope to see more stories and novels (as the author plans) come to fruition. There seems to be an awful lot that this book only hints at that can be developed and shared with the fans... And, make no mistake, McCallum is going to win fans. Of this I have very little doubt.
